Maryland Governor Declares State Of Emergency In Baltimore

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency and activated National Guard troops amid violent riots in Baltimore, according to published and broadcast reports. Hogan signed the order at the request of city officials, the Associated Press reported, after several police officers were injured and as stores were being looted and burned in the city. Monday's violence broke out following the funeral of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African American man who died of spinal injuries while in police custody earlier this month.
