Man arrested after laser pointer incidents near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport

Several commercial planes flying near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport had to change their paths after being targeted by a laser light.

The Federal Aviation Administration says no crewmembers or passengers were hurt in the incidents leading to an arrest early Wednesday.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter that also came under a laser's light guided Johnson County sheriff's deputies to a rural home. Austin Lawrence Siferd was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of illumination of an aircraft by intense light. Deputies confiscated a laser light.

FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford says six incidents, starting Tuesday night, involved planes from American Airlines, former American Eagle carrier Envoy, Southwest Airlines or cargo carrier FedEx. Controllers safely rerouted the planes.

Sheriff's officials didn't immediately release information on bond or an attorney for Siferd.
