The “world’s most famous arena” will undergo an $800 million renovation over the next four summers. Madison Square Garden first opened its doors in 1879 and has been home to the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty, while also hosting several concerts and other high-profile events.

After its most recent renovations in 1991, which totaled $200 million in improvements, the Garden will undergo another facelift over the next four summers. This remodeling will create 1,300 full-time jobs and also provide an additional 3,700 union jobs.

New York Rangers hockey will look very different over the next few seasons as the new renovations at Madison Square Garden take shape. MSG, which owns Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre and more than 50 other theaters, has managed to avoid interrupting the hockey and basketball seasons by scheduling all work during the summer months.

The new 7th avenue entrance will debut for the 2013-14 season and be nearly double in size and feature interactive kiosks, retail locations, climate controlled space, and a broadcast area.

Visitors of the new and improved Garden certainly won’t miss a minute of the action as they navigate the spacious concourses on game day. The new expanded lower concourse will debut for the 2011-12 season with city views, enhanced concession stands featuring Coca-Cola products, more restrooms and additional retail locations.

The new project adds a total of 78 brand new suites to the building. Fifty-eight new lower level suites (pictured) will debut for the 2012-13 season and are larger and half the distance to the court/ice with bowl seating. Twenty new event level suites will debut for the 2011-12 season and offer a sophisticated atmosphere and the best seats in the house. Ten of the 20 suites have direct access to seats.
