Lilly matches 3Q earnings expectations, tops revenue forecasts

Eli Lilly and Co. (LLY) on Thursday reported net income of $500.6 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Indianapolis-based company said it had net income of 47 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 66 cents per share.

The results met Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 66 cents per share.

The drugmaker posted revenue of $4.88 billion in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Analysts expected $4.84 billion, according to Zacks.

Lilly expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.72 to $2.80 per share, with revenue in the range of $19.4 billion to $19.8 billion.

Lilly shares have risen 27 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen slightly more than 4 percent. The stock has increased 29 percent in the last 12 months.
