Leonard Lauder donating $10M to Hunter College's nursing school

Cosmetics executive Leonard Lauder is donating $10 million to Hunter College for its school of nursing.

The college says Lauder is making the donation in memory of his first wife, Evelyn. She died in 2011 from non-genetic ovarian cancer.

She graduated from Hunter College in 1958 with a degree in anthropology and also attended Hunter's high school.

In 1993 she founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Lauder told the Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/1LwCqoV ) he was motivated to support nursing because of the skilled and intuitive nurses who cared for his wife over the years.

He said he hoped for more storefront walk-in clinics in the next five to 10 years run by physician's assistants — "the highest level of nursing."
