A landmark Berkshire County resort once owned by Harriet Beecher Stowe has been sold for $18 million.

The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1Uc4xvi ) reports that CampGroup LLC and L.D. Builders under the corporate umbrella 55 Cranwell LLC bought the 380-acre Cranwell Spa and Golf Resort in Lenox. The resort has been owned by the Burack family since 1993.

The purchase includes the 105-room resort, two restaurants, a spa and the 18-hole golf course.

Andrew Benerofe, CampGroup chairman, says the plan is to upgrade and elevate the resort.

The estate was founded in 1853 by the Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, who left to his sister, who wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin." She sold it in 1879.

The resort currently employs 120 people full time, and 180 part-timers.
