Hurricane Danny Strengthens To a Category 3
Hurricane Danny has strengthened further and is now a major hurricane, classified as Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the National Hurricane Center reported Friday. Maximum winds are estimated at 115 miles per hour, the center said in an advisory. Danny, the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic season, is not expected to further intensify. "Danny is moving into an area of unfavorable upper-level winds, and a weakening trend is expected to begin later today," said the advisory. Danny is expected to reach Puerto Rico in about 96 hours, according to an earlier advisory.
