Here's Why Apple Inc. May Win the Automotive Infotainment Space

Apple has been slowly creeping further into the automotive infotainment space -- where users can control everything from navigation to music -- with its CarPlay platform. But carmakers have been a bit reluctant to hand over the infotainment controls to technology companies, mainly out of fear of losing control over their own data.

That became more apparent last week when MotorTrend published an articlestating that Porsche won't include Google'sAndroid Auto infotainment system because it requires the automaker to hand over too much of the car's data. Apple's CarPlay, for its part, only asks to know whether the vehicle is moving, so it can disable certain features for safety reasons.

The difference between these two systems may be enough for more automakers to choose CarPlay over Android Auto, or at least make Google back down from its data collection. Click on the slideshow below to find out more.
