Apple's iPads are still one of the most popular tablets on the market, and user satisfaction is high for the devices. But Apple has had a hard time convincing users to upgrade their iPads to newer versions. The result is that Apple's iPads make up only about 8% of the company's total revenue.

New research from IDC on detachable tablets suggests that the iPad Pro may be able to boost that revenue percentage higher, and expand Apple's tablet market share. Of course, Apple will still have to contend with Microsoft's Surface Pro lineup, but with the detachable tablet segment expected to grow 75% in 2016, year over year, the iPad Pro could finally inject some momentum into Apple's iPad sales.
