Haymon's 'Premier Boxing Champions' adds fights on traditional broadcast TV with CBS deal

Al Haymon's "Premier Boxing Champions" series is adding more fights on traditional broadcast television.

CBS said Tuesday that it will air up to eight live events this year.

Haymon's management company announced last month that it would produce matchups to air on NBC. Haymon is making a major investment in the hopes that bringing back big-time boxing to network TV will boost the sport.

This will be the first regular live boxing series on CBS in 15 years.

The PBC fights on CBS allow the company to promote upcoming broadcasts on partner Showtime to a wide audience. The reverse also occurs: Avid boxing fans watching bouts on Showtime will hear about the CBS events.

Light heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson will defend his WBC title against former super middleweight champ Sakio Bika on the first CBS telecast on a Saturday afternoon on April 4.
