Guatemalan prosecutors receive threats in investigation of killings of 3 journalists
Officials in Guatemala say investigators looking into the killings of three journalists this month have received threats related to the case.
The prosecutors' office said Tuesday that the threats were made against its investigators in Suchitepequez, around where the killings occurred in two separate attacks earlier this month. Prosecutors did not state the nature of the threats.
Prensa Libre newspaper correspondent Danilo Lopez and Radio Nuevo Mundo's Federico Salazar were killed by gunmen on a motorcycle while walking in a park in the southern town of Mazatenango. Lopez had made complaints against two mayors who allegedly threatened him over articles he had written.
Guido Villatoro, a cameraman for a local cable television station, was slain a few days later.
