Government contractor linked to Mexican president's home also sold house to treasury secretary

A government contractor found to own the mansion where Mexico's first family lives also sold a house to the country's treasury secretary.

Finance Minister Luis Videgaray said Friday he bought the house from a subsidiary of Grupo Higa in October 2012, more than a month before he took office.

Videgaray is a close adviser to President Enrique Pena Nieto. His statement confirmed a Wall Street Journal report.

Grupo Higa has won contracts during Pena Nieto's time as president and as governor of Mexico state. It was part of a consortium awarded a high-speed rail contract before the deal was canceled and re-bid.

First lady Angelica Rivera has said she was making payments on the mansion registered to a Grupo Higa subsidiary but that she would sell her interest in it.
