GM Revving Up its Social Media Operations

The social media marketing agency hired by General Motors to increase the auto giant's online presence has opened a new office in Detroit and upped its hiring, technology blog Mashable reported Monday.

The company, Big Fuel, currently has about 15 people at its Detroit office, CEO Avi Savar said, and is looking to double that number by March.

The agency has another 80 people in New York.

Savar said he hopes to have a staff of more than 200 by the end of 2011.

Big Fuel was brought on by GM about three months ago. The agency has not yet created any campaigns for GM, but Savar said a few are set to launch in January, including one for the Chevrolet Cruze called “Cruze-arati” that gives Cruzes to people who have big followings on social media.
