1. Big Three Automakers (NYSE:GM) (NYSE:F) (NYSE:FIATY)
The Big Three U.S. automakers report March sales figures on the day. As this article went to print, Fiat's (NYSE:FIATY) Chrysler posted a bigger-than-expected 13% jump in U.S. sales. General Motors (NYSE:GM) and Ford (NYSE:F) are due out later in the day.
GM CEO Mary Barra will also face a grilling from lawmakers on Capitol Hill over the ignition-switch issue that has claimed at least 13 lives.
2. Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT)
A Senate panel alleged Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) dodged $2.4 billion in taxes between 2000 and 2012. The world's biggest maker of heavy machinery says it followed applicable tax codes. The company will defend itself before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee on the day.
3. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) suppliers are beginning to produce screens for the not-yet-released iPhone 6, according to a report by Reuters. The world's biggest tech company has had a tough time convincing the markets it still has the ability to produce disruptive technologies.
4. Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ)
Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) will pay $57 million to settle a lawsuit that its former management team dropped a business model it pitched to investors for a long time.
5. Medicines Co. (NASDAQ:MDCO)
Medicines Co. (NASDAQ:MDCO) shares are plummeting after a federal judge ruled the company failed to prove that Hospira's (NYSE:HSP) generic version of its anti-coagulant Angiomax infringed on certain patents.
