Germany: pilot union says talks with Lufthansa failed

A union representing pilots at German airline Lufthansa says months of talks aimed at resolving a long-running labor dispute have ended with no results.

The Cockpit union staged 13 walkouts between April 2014 and late 2015 before a court issued an injunction ordering a halt to the strikes. Since the beginning of this year, the two sides had been holding talks to resolve the situation.

Cockpit said Friday that the talks on "sustainable job perspectives" are over and accused Lufthansa management of having "no interest in a solution." It didn't specify whether it was considering renewed strikes.

The dispute comes as Lufthansa restructures to meet increasing competition from Gulf airlines. The pilots want the airline to keep making transition payments for those seeking early retirement.
