General Motors settles 2 bellwether ignition switch cases

General Motors Co. has settled two cases related to its defective ignition switches.

The cases are among several so-called "bellwether" trials that are testing the legal boundaries of hundreds of claims against GM. Three more cases are scheduled to be heard next year.

GM settled the two cases for an undisclosed amount, plaintiffs' attorney Bob Hilliard said.

GM recalled 2.6 million small cars worldwide in 2014 to replace defective switches, which were responsible for at least 124 deaths.

The company has paid nearly $875 million to settle death and injury claims. But many others are pursuing their claims in court.

GM won three of the bellwether cases earlier this year. Most recently, a Texas jury decided in August that GM's ignition switches weren't to blame for a 2011 fatal crash.
