General Motors returns stolen Corvette from Mississippi to Detroit owner 33 years after theft
George Talley has his car back — 33 years after someone stole it from a Detroit street.
General Motors Co. says the 71-year-old Talley was reunited Tuesday with his 1979 Chevrolet Corvette at the automaker's world headquarters in Detroit.
Talley last saw his car in 1981 after parking it. AAA called him June 13 this year to report his Corvette was sitting at a Hattiesburg, Mississippi, police station.
Talley says he was told the car "was running, had 47,000 miles on it and was ready" for pickup.
GM Product Development Executive Vice President Mark Reuss offered to ship the car back to Detroit. Reuss said "that car belonged home in Detroit, with its rightful owner."
GM says Talley has owned three other Corvettes, but the 1979 model is his favorite.
