Former A&P executive sentenced to jail for $1.2 million scam involving concert, sports tickets

A former senior vice president of a supermarket chain who sold more than $1.2 million worth of concert and sports tickets meant for the store for his own gain has been sentenced to three years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty sentenced John R. Moritz, of Mason, Ohio, on Wednesday for selling the tickets meant for the A&P supermarket and liquor store chain. He was also ordered to pay $3.2 million in restitution.

Prosecutors say the 44-year-old arranged for the New Jersey-based company to buy events tickets for employees and business purposes. Moritz instead sold more than 7,000 tickets for personal gain without the company's consent. These events included tickets to the 2011 Super Bowl and Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi and U2 concerts.

He pleaded guilty in federal court to wire fraud in March.
