Florida trucker crushed by 5-ton storage pod in New York dies; woman was injured on Dec. 11
Authorities say a Florida truck driver has died from injuries suffered when she was crushed by a 5-ton storage pod at an upstate New York facility.
The Onondaga (ahn-uhn-DAH'-guh) County Sheriff's Office says 38-year-old Alicia Henderson of Casselberry, Florida, died Tuesday at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. She had been hospitalized there in critical condition since the Dec. 11 accident.
Investigators say Henderson was unloading the portable storage unit at the PODS facility in the town of Clay when one of the straps got tangled. Police say she was attempting to free the strap when it gave way, causing the pod to release and land on her.
An employee used a forklift to get the pod off her.
The sheriff's office and the federal Occupation Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
