Fiat Chrysler CEO: Company, auto industry must adapt to stricter US auto safety enforcement

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says his company will adjust to stricter enforcement of auto safety rules by the U.S. government.

Marchionne says Fiat Chrysler will cooperate with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and answer all of its questions.

His remarks Tuesday night came a day after the agency announced a rare public hearing to determine if Fiat Chrysler failed to properly fix problems in 20 recalls covering more than 10 million vehicles.

Marchionne says a Chrysler representative will testify at the hearing scheduled for July 2.

He says the industry isn't used to stricter enforcement and the adjustment will be painful.
