FedEx Expects Record Holiday Shipments
FedEx Corp. is expecting record shipping volume for the holiday period, as shipments are forecast to rise 8.8% over last year to 290 million from between the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas eve. The package-delivery giant anticipates three volume spikes occurring on the first three Mondays of December, with Dec. 15 expected to be the busiest day in FedEx's history with a projected 22.6 million shipments. FedEx said it was adding 50,000 seasonal positions to bolster capacity. The stock has climbed 11% so far this year, through Tuesday, compared with a 5% gain in the S&P 500 and a 15% rise in the Dow Jones Transportation Average.
