FairPoint workers ratify agreement to end 4-month strike in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont

Striking FairPoint workers have ratified a tentative agreement that ends a four-month strike by more than 1,700 telecommunications workers in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Communications Workers of America announced the results of three days of voting on Sunday.

Workers will head back to their jobs Wednesday.

The telecom workers went on strike in October after the company declared an impasse and began imposing terms of its "final offer."

The tentative agreement came after federal mediators brought both sides together seven weeks ago in Washington, D.C.

FairPoint is northern New England's primary landline provider with about 1 million lines. The North Carolina-based company bought Verizon's landline holdings in the region for $2.3 billion in 2007.
