Exxon Mobil posts 4Q profit of $6.57 billion, result tops expectations

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) on Monday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $6.57 billion.

The Irving, Texas-based company said it had profit of $1.56 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations, but Exxon does not adjust its reported results based on one-time events such as asset sales. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.33 per share.

The oil and natural gas company posted revenue of $87.28 billion in the period.

Exxon shares have decreased slightly more than 5 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has dropped 3 percent. The stock has fallen 5 percent in the last 12 months.
