Expedia Shares Gain On Better-than-expected Earnings

Expedia Inc. late Thursday reported its third-quarter earnings rose to $257.1 million, or $1.94 a share, from $170.9 million, or $1.22 a share, a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, the travel website would have earned $1.93 a share, significantly better than the $1.75 a share forecast by analysts in a FactSet survey. Revenue grew 22% to $1.71 billion and gross bookings climbed 29%. Shares of Expedia gained 1.6% in extended trading.
