Euro Falls Below $1.10 After Jobless-claims Report

Dollar strengthened against the euro and yen Thursday after the Department of Labor said applications for unemployment benefits fell to the lowest level since 1973. Applications declined by 26,000 to 255,000 in the seven days ended July 18. The euro fell to $1.0981, from $1.1015 ahead of the data. Meanwhile, the dollar strengthened to 123.97 yen, from 123.85 yen ahead of the data. The dollar was little-changed vs. the British pound.
