Energy, Materials And Mining Stocks Clobbered In Early Trading

Energy, materials and mining stocks plunged in early trading Monday, dragged down by a steep decline in oil prices and the weight of a broader market rout. Freeport-McMoRan Inc. led the decline, shedding 10.7% in early trade. Dow Chemical fell 8%, Chesapeake Energy Corp. fell 7% and Newfield Exploration co. fell 7%. Noble Energy was down 6.6^ and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. lost 6%.
