Dow average slides 200 points as evidence of a global slowdown mounts; SodaStream plunges

The stock market is slumping as investors worry that global economic growth is slowing.

The Dow Jones industrial dropped 207 points, or 1.2 percent, to 16,784 as of 3:11 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday.

The Standard and Poor's 500 index fell 22 points, or 1.1 percent, to 1,942. The Nasdaq composite fell 56 points, or 1.3 percent, to 4,398.

Industrial production in Germany, Europe's largest economy, dropped the most in five years and the International Monetary Fund trimmed its outlook for global growth this year and next.

SodaStream plunged 21 percent after the company said it isn't winning over enough new customers in the U.S.
