Documents: Deep-sea treasure hunter captured with dozens of cell phones, pre-paid phone cards

A government exhibit indicates a deep-sea treasure hunter who spent years as a fugitive possessed dozens of cellphones, 15 pre-paid calling cards and devices to change his voice when arrested.

Tommy Thompson awaits sentencing next month after pleading guilty earlier this year to a criminal contempt charge for refusing to testify about gold he discovered in a historic shipwreck.

A document filed in federal court Monday lists numerous items the government says belonged to Thompson and were found when he was arrested in January in Florida.

The items included the phone cards, 43 cellphones, three voice changing devices and 16 photo ID cards.

Investors in the treasure hunt are seeking permission to view 75 boxes of Thompson's property, a request opposed by Thompson's attorney.
