Despite debate claim, Trump wanted a Florida casino; Bush opposed it and wouldn't back down

Former Republican Gov. Jeb Bush says Donald Trump wanted casinos in Florida. Trump says that's not true.

Bush was right: Trump wanted a Florida casino before, during and after Bush's eight years in office.

The issue came up during Wednesday's Republican presidential debate, when Bush said he couldn't be bought by donors and used Trump as an example. Bush said Trump donated to his 1998 campaign and wanted Florida casinos.

Trump said, "I did not."

But while Bush was in office, Trump pushed Florida leaders for a deal with an Indian Tribe for a casino he wanted to manage. Bush refused to let the Seminole Tribe offer Las Vegas-style gambling at what's now the Hard Rock casinos.

The Trump campaign said Thursday that he never directly asked Bush to back a casino.
