Claman on Call: Oil Falls Near Two-Year Low
The CDC confirmed that the first Ebola case in the United States has been diagnosed. As a result of that news, shares of Tekmira Pharmaceuticals, which makes an Ebola treatment were soaring after hours -- up 25%.
It was a volatile day for markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average crossed the unchanged line more than 40 times today. And talk about a down day for oil: Nymex Crude tumbling 3.6% today, the largest selloff in almost two years.
Overseas, the pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong are getting larger and larger. Steve Bernstein, Sinopac CEO, whose offices are right in the heart of the action, joined FOX Business and said the protests are unlikely to change Beijing's policy. But, he said, the demonstrations are "significant." And they seem to be having an impact on some Chinese stocks -- companies like Weibo, Sina and Tencent have all been down since the protests began on Sept. 26.
It's the rise of the drones: In a FOX Business exclusive, Helen Greiner, Cyphy Works CEO, spoke about her company's new device that has won a contract from the U.S. Air Force. It can fit in your pocket and the technology has the ability to transmit data in combat zones -- even if the machine is shot down. It could revolutionize military missions -- and save troops' lives.
And it was an historic day for football fans -- the Federal Communications Commission voted unanimously to overturn the blackout rule. The decades-old rule, which banned cable and satellite providers from carrying games blacked out on local broadcasts, was intended to encourage fans to go to the stadiums. David Goodfriend, Sports Fan Coalition Executive Director, joined FOX Business to discuss the ruling -- his organization was instrumental in eliminating the blackout rule. He says Washington isn't done scrutinizing the NFL. To find out how you can join the cause, check out his interview online at FOXBusiness.com/OnCall.
