Chicago Bears Fire Head Coach Trestman, G.M. Emery
The Chicago fired general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman early Monday, according to local media reports. The firing of Trestman after a 5-11 season that ended Sunday was viewed as a certainty, while Emery's departure remained the subject of speculation. The Bears were 8-8 in 2013, Trestman's first season with the team. The Chicago Sun-Times noted that Trestman was perceived as having lost control of the Bears locker room and had demonstrated an "inability to solve the Jay Cutler riddle." The Bears became the second high-profile NFL organization to fire a head coach and general manager Monday, following in the New York Jets' wake.
