Century-old time capsule marking New York as a pioneering commercial hub unsealed

A century-old time capsule filled by Wall Street businessmen celebrating New York as a pioneering commercial hub has been unsealed.

Spectators gathered around the mysterious bronze box as it was opened at the New-York Historical Society on Wednesday.

Inside were documents depicting life in 1914, from the tea, coffee and spice business to baseball and bull fights.

The time capsule was sealed by the Lower Wall Street Business Men's Association. They asked that it be opened in 1974. But somehow, it was forgotten.

A curator discovered it in a museum warehouse in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.
