CDC Suffers From 'inadequate' Safety Training: Report

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suffers from "inadequate" safety training, lacks leadership and does not foster a culture of accountability at its laboratories, according to an internal report first unearthed Thursday by USA Today. The report, actually dated Jan. 13 and done in light of recent lab mishaps involving dangerous pathogens, says the agency needs to more strongly emphasize safety at its facilities. "Interviews and surveys demonstrated that many employees neither understand the agency's response to accidents nor how that information is communicated to the larger agency community outside immediately affected labs," the report states.
