Cashing in on El Chapo
Federal authorities are ready to shell out the big bucks for big time criminals. While there are differing opinions on whether or not high cash rewards lead to more tips, the government continues to offer large paydays.
Here are five of the most expensive criminals.
1. El Chapo
Mexican authorities have offered $3.8 million for the capture of the world's most famous drug lord.
2. David Sweat and Richard Matt
The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, offered $100,000 for finding both of the escaped New York convicts, or $50,000 for finding one.
3. Osama Bin-Laden
The U.S. government offered $25 million for the capture of Osama Bin-Laden. The reward was never paid because the information that led to Bin-Laden's capture was provided by electronic intelligence and not humans.
4. Whitey Bulger
One of Boston's most well known criminals, Whitey Bulger was worth big bucks to authorities. $2.1 million was paid out to tipsters who provided information leading to Bulger's arrest. One of the tipsters was a former Miss Iceland turned yoga instructor who received $2 million.
5. Victor Manuel Gerena
After allegedly robbing a Connecticut security company of $7 million in 1983, Victor Manuel Gerena is on the FBI's Most Wanted List. The FBI will offer up to $1 million for information leading to his capture and arrest.
