Car driver dies after crash into bus in Southern California; 5 others receive minor injuries
Authorities say the driver of a car that collided with a bus carrying 17 people in Southern California has died.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Ed Casillas said Monday the man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after the Sunday evening crash in the Bloomington area of San Bernardino County. The coroner identified him as 26-year-old Pedro Lira of Fontana.
The county Fire Department says firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the driver from the wreckage.
Casillas says five people on the bus suffered minor injuries.
The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
A telephone message seeking comment was left with the bus company, Executive Lines Inc., which offers transportation between Baldwin Park, California, El Paso, Texas, and Tijuana, Mexico.
