Brazil's finance minister recovering from pulmonary embolism

Brazil's Finance Ministry says Minister Joaquim Levy suffered a pulmonary embolism Friday night but was recovering and was expected to fly New York to accompany President Dilma Rousseff on her official visit to the United States.

Levy's press office said he was hospitalized in Brasilia after complaining of chest pains. He was diagnosed with a "slight pulmonary embolism" and released hours later.

Levy was unable to join Rousseff in time for her morning flight to the U.S., but would take a later commercial flight, the press office.

Calls to the Hospital do Coracao went unanswered.

Levy crafted the fiscal adjustment plan aimed at regaining the confidence of investors as Brazil's economy struggles to fight back inflation, rising unemployment and low industrial output.
