Berlin and Hamburg plan to bid for Summer Olympics in 2024 or 2028
Berlin and Hamburg have announced their intention to bid for the Olympics in 2024 or 2028.
The lawmakers in both cities approved plans on Tuesday to present a bid to the German Olympic Committee.
The committee will decide on Dec. 6 whether to bid for the Olympics. The Germans also have to decide whether they will bid for the 2024 Games or the 2028 Olympics.
Hamburg wanted to bid for the games in 2012 but lost the internal competition to Leipzig, which was then defeated as the games went to London. Berlin lost a bid for the 2000 Olympics.
Berlin's bid will have to be approved by a referendum. Munich's citizens voted against a Winter Games bid for 2022.
