Baltimore-area airport loses power for 90 minutes; flights delayed or canceled

A power outage at a Baltimore airport terminal disrupted operations and caused flights to be canceled or delayed.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport spokesman Jonathan Dean said in an email that power went out about 10:20 a.m. Monday. He says the outage affected concourses A, B, and C. Passenger screening operations and airline ticketing operations were suspended during the outage.

Dean says power was restored about 90 minutes later. He says flights were affected but did not know how many during a traditionally busy travel week.

Dean says an early investigation shows that an underground electrical cable on the airfield failed, causing the outage. The damage is being repaired, he says. BWI has put a large generator near the terminal to serve as emergency backup while repairs are made.
