Authorities: Flight lands safely at Florida airport after spotting drone near approach path

Authorities say a JetBlue flight landed safely in Florida after spotting a small drone near its approach path.

In a statement to the Sun Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1QexjHJ ), Federal Aviation Administration officials say the pilots didn't have to take evasive action as they landed Monday morning at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. JetBlue Flight 2007 had departed from Pittsburgh.

The FAA is investigating.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the drone was about 1,000 feet above the plane when the incident occurred about 15 miles west of the airport. While the drone wasn't violating any airspace restrictions, the sheriff's office notified the FBI.

A sheriff's helicopter also was dispatched to the area but it couldn't find the drone.
