Arizona's average gasoline price at $2.96 per gallon; Down by 8 cents from last week

Gasoline prices around Arizona have fallen to under $3 per gallon like they have in 20 other states.

Officials with AAA Arizona said Thursday that the average statewide price for unleaded regular gasoline is $2.96 a gallon. That's 8 cents lower than last week.

This week's national average is $3.01 per gallon, down by almost 7 cents from last week.

AAA analysts say prices should remain low, barring unforeseen circumstances.

The East Valley area (Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Ahwatukee, Apache Junction and Queen Creek) has Arizona's lowest average gasoline price at $2.85 a gallon and Flagstaff has the highest at $3.28.

South Carolina has the lowest average gas prices among states in the continental U.S. at $2.75 a gallon with New York having the highest at $3.38 a gallon.
