AP sources: Obama considers executive order requiring paid sick leave for federal contractors

President Barack Obama is considering signing an executive order that would require all federal contractors to offer paid sick leave to their employees.

That's according to two individuals familiar with the deliberations who spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to comment publicly.

The individuals say the executive order being drafted would require about seven days of paid leave for workers who are sick or caring for sick relatives.

Obama in January began urging Congress to allow workers to earn up to seven days of paid leave. Congress hasn't yet taken that step.

The Labor Department says it's considering ways to expand paid leave but says no final decisions have been made.

Obama has frequently applied policies to federal contractors that he wants Congress to enact nationwide.
