Amazon Web Services Inks Wind Farm Deal To Power Data Centers

Amazon Web Services Inc., the cloud computing arm of Amazon.com Inc. said Thursday it has signed a deal with EDP Renewables to build and operate a 100-megawatt wind farm in Paulding County, Ohio, in the northwestern corner of the state. The new plant is expected to generate about 320,000 megawatt hours of wind energy, or enough to power 29,000 U.S. homes in a year, by May 2017, the company said. That energy will feed into the electrical grid of "current and future" Amazon Web Services cloud data centers, Amazon Web Services said. It is the company's fourth major renewable project this year.
