Aflac meets 4Q net income expectations, misses revenue forecasts

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) — Aflac Inc. (AFL) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $703 million.

The Columbus, Georgia-based company said it had profit of $1.57 per share. Earnings, adjusted for investment gains, came to $1.30 per share.

The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of $1.30 per share.

The insurer posted revenue of $5.51 billion in the period, missing Street forecasts. Analysts expected $5.52 billion, according to Zacks.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.95 billion, or $6.50 per share. Revenue was reported as $22.73 billion.

Aflac shares have dropped slightly more than 3 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has stayed nearly flat. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $59.08, a fall of almost 3 percent in the last 12 months.
