Aeropostale Slumps After Disappointing Fourth-quarter Outlook

Teen clothing retailer Aeropostale Inc. shares fell 7% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after it gave a disappointing fourth-quarter outlook. The company forecast a loss of 37 cents to 44 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet were looking at a loss of 37 cents a share. Aeropostale said its third-quarter net loss more than doubled to $52.3 million, or 66 cents a share, from $25.6 million, or 33 cents, a year earlier. Excluding non-recurring items, it posted a loss of 45 cents. Analysts were looking for a loss of 46 cents a share. Sales fell 12% to $452.9 million, slightly above the $444.1 million FactSet consensus estimate. Same-store sales dropped 11%, missing the 10.3% drop analysts surveyed by Retail Metrics were looking for. See related story on rival Abercrombie.
