Activision Blizzard, United Continental to join the S&P 500

Video game maker Activision Blizzard and airline United Continental Holdings Inc. are going to become a part of the S&P 500.

Activision Blizzard, which makes games including "World of Warcraft" and "Call of Duty," will replace Pall Corp. after the market close on Friday. Pall is being acquired by industrial and medical device maker Danaher Corp. for about $13.56 billion. Pall makes water filtration systems for airplane manufacturers, public works companies and biopharmaceutical makers.

Santa Monica, California-based Activision Blizzard will be added to the S&P 500 Home Entertainment Software Sub-Industry index.

Shares of Activision Blizzard rose $1.92, or 6.9 percent, to $29.85 in Friday premarket trading.

United Continental will replace Hospira Inc. after the Sept. 2 market close. Injectable drug and infusion device maker Hospira is being purchased by drug maker Pfizer Inc. for $15.23 billion.

The Chicago-based United Continental will be added to the S&P 500 Airlines Sub-Industry index.
