Much has been made about the average American's inability to save for retirement. While there's a lot of truth in that concern, it's also worth noting that the average retiree usually spends far less than when they were working.

There are lots of reasons for this -- like not needing to drive to work every day, having time to make home-cooked meals. No matter the reasons, it's important to know what your biggest expenses will be and roughly how much they are.

While very few retiree households qualify as "average," the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Expenditure Survey gives us a good idea for what to expect in retirement. Based on average expenses for those over the age of 75, here are the 10 largest capital expenditures in retirement.
