Lush cosmetics raises money for Australian wildfires with koala-shaped soap, relief fund

UK-based Lush handmade cosmetics is raising money for land conservation and animal rescue groups as wildfires in Australia have killed dozens of people

UK-based Lush handmade cosmetics is raising money for land conservation and animal rescue groups as wildfires in Australia have killed dozens of people.

One hundred percent of the sales of the company's "All the Wild Things" koala-shaped soap is going to Lush's Bush Animal Fund, which was created with an outlook to sell 50,000 units.

The soap is already sold out in the U.S. and U.K., and Lush is now offering a body lotion replacement called Charity Pot to benefit animal welfare, human rights and environmental conservation efforts.

Wildfires have claimed at least 33 lives in Australia since September, destroyed more than 3,000 homes and razed more than 10.6 million hectares (26 million acres). That's an area larger than the U.S state of Kentucky.

"The Bush Animal Fund is now accepting grant requests from grassroots groups who are rescuing animals from the fires or restoring habitats, to help fund their work whether now during the emergency, or for longer-term," Lush said.

"All the Wild Things" is infused with eucalyptus, lemongrass, peppermint and coconut oil and is scented the same as their bestselling soap "Outback Mate." The soap was on the U.S. market for $7. Charity Pot retails at $8.

"As a business that cares deeply for animals, people and the planet, responding to the bushfires in Australia with funding support to impacted wildlife is simply the right thing to do," Lush manager of charitable giving and ethical campaigns Tricia Stevens said in a statement.
