U.K. Unemployment Stays At 6% In September; Wages Rise

Unemployment in the U.K. remained at 6% in the three-month period to September, slightly missing forecasts of a 5.9% reading, according to data from the Office for National Statistics out on Wednesday. Wages including bonuses rose 1% year-on-year in the period, beating forecasts of an improvement of around 0.9%. The pound rose to $1.5922 after the data, from $1.5906 ahead of the report. The labor-market numbers came just before the Bank of England's Inflation Report is released at 10:30 a.m. (5:30 a.m. Eastern Time).
