Supreme Court Says States Must Allow Same-sex Marriage

The Supreme Court ruled Friday that state gay-marriage bans are unconstitutional. The high court's 5-to-4 decision means same-sex marriages may be performed and recognized in all states. Gay marriage is now legal in 37 states. It is banned in 13 states including Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee, whose prohibitions were at the heart of the Supreme Court case.
