Geithner Hospitalized for Kidney Stone Removal

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was admitted to a hospital in Washington, D.C., on Friday for treatment of a kidney stone, according to a statement from the Treasury Department.

Geithner, 49, is scheduled to have a “minor surgical procedure” later today at George Washington University Hospital to remove the kidney stone. He is expected to be released Saturday and to return to work on Monday after resting over the weekend.

Kidney stones form in the urine and are known to be extremely painful. His surgery will prevent him from appearing on the Sunday morning talk shows to explain President Obama's tax compromise with Republicans that extends all of the Bush-era tax cuts for two years.
